Overall, it is clear that there were upward trends in the number of visitors to MET-New York and National-China museums over a 5-year period, while the visitors to Edo-Tokyo museum saw a significant decrease. Another noticeable point is that National was the most popular museum in 2005, although it had the lowest figure of three museums at the beginning of the period in question.
Looking at the details, regarding National, the figure for visitors started at just over 6 million in 2000, after that this figure rise gradually to around 11 million in 2004. Following this, that museum experienced a sharp increase in the number of visitors, hitting a peak of about 16 million in 2005. As regards Edo, it was at about 13 million in 2000, and then the number of people visiting decline dramatically in 2003, reaching a trough of around 6 million. Though the figure then recovered to 10 million in 2005, it was still the least common museum in the second half of the whole period.
In terms of MET, the trend was similar to Edo. Despite falling noticeably by 6 million from 12 million in 2000 to 6 million in 2002, the number of visitors then grew steadily, rocketing to just over 14 million at the of the period.
