Some people say that University Students should pay full cost of their education. Others say that University education should be free. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Should University students be asked to bear the cost of education or should it be made free is a debate that has been lingering around since quite some time.

Many people believe that University education should be fully paid by the students itself, as it is something based on individual choice. It is the student who needs to decide whether they want to opt for further education or not. While others say, access to free education up to the basic education imparted to student is inadequate for employment and the overall development of the society.
In my opinion, free education is a right of the people, and if policies are worked out appropriately, is affordable to the government. It shall act as a great asset in the long run. Here I would like to elaborate my answer with reasons, why I strongly feel so.

Firstly, I would like to highlight that when education is linked with higher fees, the student would prefer not to partake streams of their likings but take admissions in courses which they can easily afford to pay. The perception of education will then turn from preference or natural talent to affordability and status of living. In most of the cases then, though the students may take admissions in the fields they are less interested in, but later the dropout rates of the colleges could increase due to lack of performance, leading o an overall imbalance. Also due to lack of funding the poor students may deprive themselves for further education leading to increase in unemployment and an indirect impact on the economies. While lack of funding leads to less educated students, this leads to lesser skilled people for the job markets

At the same time, if government can create more talented graduates by college funding, they would create of pool of entrepreneurs or skilled candidates for the growing markets who could contribute back to the society by creating new products or startups and offering more business and job opportunities to the fresher growing talents. We cannot ignore the long term benefit of a country for the short term gains done by revenues generated from college fees. The revenue invested in the free education can be regained by levying additional taxes on the graduates who have availed benefits from these policies.

I would hereby like to conclude that University fees should be waived of and education must be made free for graduates, with scholarships offered for highly talented students for the better growth and a faster economic development of the country.
