I am writing to register my interest in being a volunteer for the 'Clean air drive' initiative that you advertised in The Hindu paper on Sunday, June 15, 2019.
Smog is a major concern for the residents of HSR Layout. Increasing number of housing complexes and apartment has contribute to the deplorable quality of the air that we breathe. Firstly, the number of commuters using cars in this locality is quite high compared to other parts of the city, it estimated that about fifty percent of the residents in HSR Layout use car as their primary mode of transport. Increasing number of cars in the roads early in the morning has not only contributed to the heavy traffic in the outer ring road during the rush hours, it also has detrimental effects on the quality of air because of the vehicular pollution.
I would love to volunteer in promoting the use of smart bikes and run awareness campaigns in the area. Planting more trees in pavements and nearby parks will help us in increasing the level of oxygen in the atmosphere. Cycle tracks for commuters would encourage the use of bi-cycles. These initiatives could help us build a smart city that is eco-friendly and sustainable.
