Your friend invited you to his/her birthday party, but you were unable to attend. Write a letter to apologize for your absence. In your letter:
• State why you could not go
• Explain your reason for not contacting your friend sooner
• Suggest another time to meet
Dear Tuan,
How are you, my friend? I believe I owe you an apology for not showing up at your birthday party at your house last Saturday.
You know, I couldn’t be there because there was an emergent surgical case at my hospital and my senior asked for a back-up while other colleagues were too far away. Apparently, I was the only one to assist him. The surgery went through 3 hours and I was exhausted, so I couldn’t stop by your house after that.
As you can see, this was such a spontaneous incident that I didn’t expect at all. At first, I thought the surgery was going to be over quickly. But, since it went out of hand, I couldn’t give you a call and I’m really sorry about this. I hope that you’ll understand and forgive my absence.
Last, please let me make it up to you by buying you a drink this Sunday. I’ll be totally free from work and I’m sure you’ll be too.
I’m looking forward to receiving your call soon.
