Undoubtedly, the origin of the coin is controversial to the historians. More specifically, the writer asserts that someone put the coin on the site to mislead everybody. However, the professor provides some example and explanation to refute the writers' claim.
First, the writer mentions that the distance between the Native American site and sites Norse presented is over 1000 kilometers. However, the professor says that other items from Europe are also found in the Native American Site. If you were these Native Americans, you would have walked a long distance to obtain these precious items which improve life quality.
Second, the author points out that there are no other coins found in the inhabitant of the Norse. The professor, once again, forms another explanation. To Norse, silver coins are very valuable and the Natives won't accepts them. It follows that the Norse would bring all the silver coins back if they were planning to go home.
Another question the passage mentioned is that the silver is of no use - Native didn't recognize it as a medium of exchange. The professor says that the silver coins can have other functions; they don't have to be money. Because silver coins are beautiful, the Natives may put in on the necklace or turn it into jewelry.
In conclusion, the writer and the professor have different opinions on the origin of the coin.
