4-day working

Essay topics:

4-day working

The lecture talks about the disadvantages in 4-day working and, in doing so, contradicts much of the information that is related in the reading. Specifically, the writing contradicts the reading on three major points: company profits, new employments and quality of life.

The reading passage asserts that 4-day working will increase company profits as the work efficiency increases. However, the lecture contradicts the writer’s argument by saying due to the need of more employment, as the company expenditure increases the profit will decrease. Although in 4-day working system employees are paid less, the cost to train employees and provide medical service remains the same. Therefore, the company expenditure rises in a 4-day working system which ultimately drops company profit.

Also, the reading passage contends that 4-day working will create new jobs as employees are needed to fill vacancy. In contrast, the lecture argues that employment will decrease. Employment costs a lot of money as stated before, and employer swill find other options such as increasing working hours or forcing night shift instead.

Lastly, the reading passages claims that fewer working hours will increase the quality of life of employees since it will ensure more free time to spend. On the other hand, the lecture doubts this assertion. Instead of having more free time, it could decrease the quality of life since 4-day workers have disadvantage in getting a promotion or finding a lucrative career.
