Agnostids were a group of marine animals that became extinct about 450 million years ago. Agnostid fossils can be found in rocks in many areas around the world. From the fossil remains, we know that agnostids were primitive arthropods-relatives of modern-

The article is about Agnostids which the passage defines as a species that lived 450 million years ago and they were primitive arthropods-relatives of modern-day insects. The author argues three different theories about how Agnostids may have lived. However, the professor explains that unfortunately each theory has serious weaknesses and she refutes each of the reasons.

First, the reading argues that the Agnostids may have been free-swimming predators that hunted smaller animals. The author mentions that because other types of primitive arthropods were strong swimmers and active predators, so it is reasonable that the Agnostids may have lived that way. The professor refutes this point by stating that all of the arthropods have large well-developed eyes to persuing preys, but agnostids had poor and less-developed eyes and some types were complete blinds. So they were not the predator.

Second, the article claims that they may have dwelled on the seafloor and survived by scavenging dead organisms or by grazing on bacteria. Nevertheless, the professor contends that animals that live in seafloor usually move very slow and they can not spread to new areas, but there is some evidence that shows that Agnostids were able to move fast and they spread in multiple large distances.

Third, the reading avers that there is the possibility that the agnostids were parasites like other arthropods which live on other large animals. The lecture opposes this point by saying that the population of parasites has limits and they can not grow so large, because they will kill the host. She adds that agnostids had a very large population.
