Animal Intelligence

Essay topics:

Animal Intelligence

Both the reading and the listening passages talk about animal intelligence. The passage states that the ability of an animal to recognize itself determines its intelligence. The professor supports this information by adding that the animal intelligence is relative to the way it empathises with other animals. The professor argued an animal's empathy is measured by the way the animal perceive itself as an individual.
The reading passage provides examples of animal intelligence. First, it stated a study was done on chimpanze. The chimpanzes watched of video of others chimpanzes and they could feel happiness or fear according to the experience of the other chimpanzes in the video. The professor supports this example by confirming that chimpanzes are among the only animals to recognize themselves.
The passage also discussed the way mirrors were used to test intelligence. The professor elaborates on this points by illustrating an experiment. He reported that in the study made with mirrors, dophins were marked. The dophins felt the marks, and when they were present the mirror, all dophins that felt the touch of the marks rushed to see what had been done to them. Some dophins, in fact, were not actually marked. Those who had a real mark got closer to the mirror to examine their marks closely.
