It is mentioned that the business that wants to make money out of precious metals that could sponsor for mining to be done in asteroids. The lecturer rebuts this argument. He says Cost of supporting equipment to support colony will be very expensive as it will incur transporting costs as well. Moreover, there is no guarantee that precious metals will be selling for higher price because if it is found abundantly, then it could lead to lower price.
Last but not least, the article states that it is easier to travel to asteroid as many number of asteroids come closer to earth's orbit more often. So, it will be easier to commute to asteroids to and fro. The lecturer, on the other hand posits that it is true some asteroids come closer to the earth's orbit and after a while it moves farther back which will make returning trip much longer than trip to asteroids. The professor establishes that the returning trip would be much farther than the mars if the orbits moves away from the earth's orbit.
