Did bees (a type of insect) exist on Earth as early as 200 million years ago? Such a theory is supported by the discovery of very old fossil structures that resemble bee nests. The structures have been found inside 200- million-year-old fossilized trees i

In the lecture, the professor makes a series of points that cast doubt on all the arguments presented in the article. She states, it could be quite possible that bees were present 200 million years ago and the arguments are not convincing.
First of all, the speaker points out that it is true that there is no real bees fossils from that time. But the reason for not finding any bee fossil from 200 million years ago is the fact that bees only could preserved on tree resin which was rare at that time. So the fact that there was no fossils remained from that time is due to the fact that no trees could produce resins to make the fossil.
Also, the professor believes absence of flowering plants is not convincing reason. She states it is possible bees before flowering plants were feeding on non flowering plants like fern and pine trees and then after presence of flowering plants then adapted to feed on them due to evolution.
Lastly, the lecturer says absence of spiral caps is not supporting the fact that bees were not made them. She states bees build the chambers due to being waterproof which other insect can not make them
