Dinosaurs as Endotherm Animals

Essay topics:

Dinosaurs as Endotherm Animals

The professor discusses the reasons why dinosaurs are not endotherms. The information she presents is in direct contrast to facts outlined in the reading.
First, the lecturer mentions that dinosaurs cannot maintain temperature well. In fact, she talks that the temperature at that time was much higher than today’s temperature. In addition, by the time the weather was cold, dinosaurs migrated to another warmer area, or even slept until the temperature was getting warmer. On the other hand, according to the reading, dinosaurs are assumed to be endotherms with the evidence of their fossils found in polar regions and only animals that keep their body temperature warm can survive during cold weather.
Second, based on the reading passage, dinosaurs are endotherms because dinosaurs have the legs underneath their bodies and those legs are believed to be used for running. However, the speaker disputes that those legs, in fact, are used by dinosaurs in order to support their body weight. What’s more, dinosaurs don’t have much energy for running.
Last but not least, the reading includes information about Haversian canals. The presence of these canals are assumed to prove that dinosaurs can growth quickly in which there is a correlation between rapid growth and the characteristic of endothermy. On the other hand, the lecturers argue that besides Haversian carnals, dinosaurs also have another bone structure indicating that dinosaurs also stop growing in some period of time. Consequently, the growth of dinosaurs are not as quick as mentioned by the reading.
