Question: Summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they cast doubt on specific points made in the reading passage.
The passage is arguing that whether large pterosaurs were capable of powered flight or whether they were able only to glide, the answer is no. But in the listening, the professor says they may capable of powered flight.
First, the writer suggest that the pterosaurs were probably cold-blooded, which typically have slow metabolism and are unable to produce lots of energy. And meanwhile the powered flight require energy. According to the professor, the pterosaurs may had fur just like the warm-blooded animals, which need lots of energy to maintain its warm during the winter. So it indicates that the pterosaurs may had the ability to fly.
Second, limiting weight of animals are required to kept the airborne by powered flight. And in the author's points of view, the pterosaurs that were as big as a giraffe which were probably so heavy. So that they couldn't fly because of their weight. But we can knowing from the listening that the pterosaurs had holly, light, unusual bornd, which means their weight are low enough to keep their airborne flying.
Third, all the animals with powered flight need stronge legs to take off from the ground, but according to the fossilized bones that the pterosaurs' back leg muscles were too small and weak to jump or run fast, mentioned by the writer. On contrary, the professor find the difference between the pterosaurs and normal animals that they use their lings to push off the ground to jump high, not only using the back legs. So that they may have the ability of powered flight.
