glass

Essay topics:

glass

The listening lecture totally opposes to the reading passage about the solutions to prevent glass on the buildings to cause injuries to birds. To begin with, the reading says that people should replace the regular glass with the one-way glass that is transparent in only one direction. However, the listening argues that this solution will not be helpful. For birds, they will still see the reflection in the one-way glass just like a mirror. Since they do not understand the propose of the mirror, they will still run into it. For example, they might see a reflection of trees and sky, but they do not know it is a reflection, so they will still bump into the glass. As a result, this solution is not likely to solve the problem.

In addition, the reading implies that people can paint colourful lines or other designs on the regular glass. On the other hand, the listening asserts that when people draw colours on the window, spaces will still occur in these lines and designs. As a result, when birds see these empty spaces, they will still try to fly though the hole. Some people may say that we can make the holes smaller, but in this way, the room will be too dark for people in the building. Therefore, it will not be helpful for people to paint colourful lines or designs on the glass.

Last but not least, the reading indicates that people should create a magnetic field to guild birds away from the building. However, the listening supports that birds do not use magnetic field during the short distances flight. They only use it during the long distances travel such as migrating to another city. When they travel in short distances, they only use their eyes and the light. Therefore, since birds do not use magnetic field when they travel around the buildings, this solution is not going to solve the problem.
