whether Whitehead was the first person to fly an airplane
The listening lecture totally opposes to the reading passage in whether Whitehead was the first person to fly an airplane. First of all, the reading says that no photo were take to proof that he made the flight. however, the listening argues that photographs were not well develop during that time. Since the photo has a poor quality and it is blurry, it is hard for people to see. Besides, Whitehead flew very early in the morning, so people cannot see it clearly because the light were not very bright. Indeed, since the photo had poor quality and the light is dark, people should not use these photo as an evidence.
In addition, the reading suggests that Whitehead's airplane could not make it really take off and fly because of the design. On the other hand, the listening asserts that this hypothesis is incorrect. Many publics know the design of Whitehead's airplane, so some people had made it and test it again, and the result is the airplane design by Whitehead can actually fly in a extremely safe way. In other words, people had test and show the airplane design of Whitehead actually work. Therefore, this hypothesis is not likely to be the explanation.
Last but not least, the reading implies that other airplane company refuse to use Whitehead's engine because his engine has a poor quality so it is impossible for him to fly the plane. However, the listening indicates that the problem of other company's airplane is the design does not match with Whitehead's engine. Moreover, the reason why other companies end up buying Whitehead's engine is because it has a high quality. To say it differently, if Whitehead's engine has a high quality, he can definitely use it and make a successful flight.
