Jane Austen 1775 1817 is one of the most famous of all English novelists and today her novels are more popular than ever with several recently adapted as Hollywood movies But we do not have many records of what she looked like For a long time the o

The author and the lecturer debate on identitiy of Jane Austen. The author of the reading passage provides three hypothesis that Cassandra depicted Jane Austen, while the lecturer opposes each point considering it unconvincing and challenges all points mentioned in the text.
To begin with, the author claims that Jane Austen's family gave a permission to portrait her and they recognized the identity of Austen. In contrast, the lecturer argues that the portrait was made in 1882, at that time, Austen was dead for 17 years. Therefore, none of the family members saw her, so they were not certain about portrait was Jane Austen's or not.
Secondly, the article asserts that another portrait of Austen made by Cassandra was resemble to teenage Austen. However, the lecturer calls this argument into question by stating that Austen had a large extended family. Moreover, many female cousins looked similar to Austen. Thus, many experts believed that in a Cassandra's portrait, the girl was Austen's distance niece.
Finally, the author notes that even though portrait was not dated, Ozias Humphery who was a professional painter hiered by Auten's family was active when she was teenager. On the other hand, as opposed to the author, the lecturer holds that a stamp on black canvas was sold by willium lag. Meanwhile, Austen was young, he did not sell stamps in London, but when she was 27 years old, he used to be active. As a result, the painting would not be depicated young Jane Austen.
