In many organizations perhaps the best way to approach certain new projects is to assemble a group of people into a team Having a team of people attack a project offers several advantages First of all a group of people has a wider range of knowledge exper

One of the long standing debate many organisations are currently concerned about is whether to assemble a group of a people into a team for new projects or not. The reading states that it is better to form a team rather than individual working on the project. However, the lecturer casts concerns on main points stated in the reading and provides reasons for his opinion.

First of all, According to the passage, An individual has more chance to get his ideas recognised when working in a team, as the overall results are more far fetching and have bigger impact. Nevertheless, the lecturer refutes this point. He argues that few people get free rides when working in a team and all the people in the team get recognised equally. Due to this, the main contributors feel that they are not recognised and they feel unsatisfied.

Second, The article states that more people will be involved in a group and as they possess greater resources, they can work more quickly on the assigned task compared to an individual. However, the lecturer opposes this point by stating that due to more people being involved in the task, they cannot reach to a conclusion quickly. So, they spend more time in meetings on planning than working on the issue.

Finally, the article claims that the team members who have a voice will now feel better, as they donot have to work on tasks imposed on them anymore. Instead, they can work on the task entailed by the decision. To this point, the lecturer argues that due to such influential people, there is a good chance that opinions of less influential people gets ignored. Moreover, when the task at hand fails due to such decisions influenced by these people, the blame falls on the entire team due to such decisions.

In conclusion, even though both the reading and the lecture are about the debate of whether to have a team working on new project or not, the opinions are contrasting. The main points made in the reading are effectively challenged by the lecturer.
