The reading and the lecture are both about the painting of young woman in a long dress which is not signed by Whistler. The lecturer casts doubt on the main points made in the reading by providing three reasons.

Finally, the reading claims that small butterfly drawing in the lower right corner is the most significiant symbol used by Whistler in his paintings instead of signature. On the other hand, the lecturer believe that Whistler usually draw this symbol in upper left corner. He thinks that the shape and color of the butterfly is diferent from his other paintings. Moreover, he feels that this small butterfly drew in painting later for forgery.
