Populations of the yellow cedar a species of tree that is common in northwestern North America have been steadily declining for more than a century now since about 1880 Scientists have advanced several hypotheses explain this decline One hypothesis i

The reading and the lecturer are both about the decline in the population of yellow cedar trees. Whereas the reading provides 3 reasons that might cause the decline, the lecturer disputes these main points.
First, the passage suggests that insects' infestation cause a decline in the ceder tree population. However, the lecturer disputes this point. He explains that insects do not the fundamental cause of the damage. He explains that the healthy Ceder trees have a high ability to resist the insect more than the other types of trees since it has a chemical substance that kills the insects. Also, He said that the insects attack the already dead trees not the healthy ones.
Second, the passage claims that the brown bears could cause the decline due to its aggressive feeding habits, However, the lecturer casts doubt on this point. He explains that the number of Ceder trees decline with and without the presence of Brown bears. He said that the trees are found all across the North coast of America like in Iland where no brown bears can found but the Ceder trees population still decreases.
Third, The passage claims that the changes in climate might be responsible for the decline. On the other hand, the lecturer believes that there is no correlation between the climate and the decline. He explains that many more trees died at a warmer temperature at the lower elevation than the coldest temperature at a high elevation.
