The first allegation of the script against which the orator argues is that humpback whales have a brain complexity which lead them to be intelligent and enables them to use stars. In contrast, the professor highlight the fact that other animals like ducks that have the navigation ability of using stars, are of average intelligence, suggesting that there is no connection between wisdom and finding way using stars. He further asserts that navigation by celestial objects is an intrinsic ability among creatures not an expertise which could be gained.
Second, according to the text, these whales are capable of moving in straight line, which is an indicator of using stars; although the speaker finds this idea debatable. He bolsters his opinion by stating that these animals have others abilities that enables them to maintain to straight way. He notes that humpback whales have a bio-magnetic section in their mind which can detect the earth's magnetic field. Therefore, using this ability, whales can orient themselves in the right way.
Lastly, the lecture contradicts this fallacy of the passage that whales float upward to see the stars, saying that its just a matter of speculation, because other animals like sharks do the same but they do not migrate at all. For example, sharks want to see their preys and the humpback whales must have such intentions rather than observing the sky.
