Essay topics:

The reading and the lecture are both about TLP; brief flashes of light emited from moon's surfuce. The author of the reading believes that there are three possible explanation for this phenomena. The claims made by the author are challenged by the lecturer. He is of the opinion that none of the theories mentioned by the author are valid.

First of all, the author suggests that the TLP is not actually real. He argues that these observations are due to flaws in telescopes. The lecturer refutes this specific argument. He says that if the telescopes were fallacious the records whould be observations from random locations on the moon's surface. Furthermore, He states that the reports show more concentration of TLP in some rigions of moon's surface.

Secondly, the author posits that the flashes can be caused by the collision of meteors to Moon's surface. The lecturer, however, claims that meteors can cause flashes for a few seconds; however, the flashes attributed to TLP last for about 19 minutes. He elaborates on this by mentioning that although several strikes of meteors can cause such a blast, scientists believe that they are not responsible for TLP.

Finally, the author proposes that there are shining rocks on the moon's surface that can be the reason for TLP. The lecturer, on the other hand, rebuts this by remarking that the light field created by these objects are significantly smaller than those of TLP. He notes that given the bright background of these objects caused by the sunlight, it isn't possible to observe these rocks easily by telescopes.
