Reading states that invasion of zebra mussels is not stoppable but on the other hand the professor argues that this invasion can be stopped

Essay topics:

Reading states that invasion of zebra mussels is not stoppable but on the other hand the professor argues that this invasion can be stopped !

Both the reading and the lecture are about zebra mussel. the author of the reading feels that there is not any way to stop the invasion of zebra mussel in the North America and they possess serious threat to fish populations. on the other, the professor argues that there are many ways to control the invasion of zebra mussels and indeed they are not threat to fish populations.
First the reading states that zebra mussels can spread through ships that travel from Europe to North of America and it is unstoppable. this specific reason is challenged by the professor. he claims that in the past because people had not enough knowledge thought that invasion of zebra mussels were unstoppable, but today ships rather than carrying fresh water which cause the zebra mussel to spread, can use ocean water that is salty and prevent spread of zebra mussels.
Second the passage suggests that zebra mussels can dominate the new habitat because they have no any predator and can tolerate variety of conditions and have high rate of reproduction. the lecturer, however, rebuts this by mentioning that at the beginning they do not have predator but birds that are in Europe will face to luck of food and will invade zebra mussels in these regions.
Finally, the passage poses that zebra mussels cause decline in fish population in habitats where they become dominant. in contrast, the lecture's position is that beside having negative effect on fish populations, zebra mussels have positive effect too. they cause bottom feeding fish to increase.
in the conclusion the passage asserts that zebra invasion is unstoppable and is a serious threat to fish population to North America. on the other hand, the lecturer argues that there are ways to stop zebra mussels’ invasion.
