Self Driving Cars

Essay topics:

Self Driving Cars

The author states about benefits of self-driving cars and how it will have a positive impact on us, in the response the lecturer disagrees and casts doubt on these reasons and continues by showing how the points made by the author do not hold water.
First of all, the author claims that autonomous cars will reduce traffic accidents because the software runs them instead of humans who are very much capable of making mistakes. Furthermore, the Author provides one example of a self-driven car that ran approximately 70,0000 miles without an accident. In contrast, the lecturer tells that software are developed by humans and prone to errors, so they are not safe. In addition to this, the lecturer asserts that the example which the author mentions about the car met with an accident the next day. This news created a fuzz all over the world.
Secondly, the reading claims that autonomous cars are safer for the environment due to their efficiency and they stuck very less in traffic jams as they can communicate with each other. In response, the lecturer says that as the cars self-driven there will be no age restriction in getting a driving license. As a result, the number of cars on the roads will be increased and thereby, will increase pollution. Even the cars are fuel-efficient, there will be no benefit from it due to an increase in the number of cars. Consequently, the lecturer shows the inaccuracy of the author's belief of cars making the world less polluted.
Third, the author explains that self-driving cars will provide free time to the drivers and the drivers can do different tasks at this time such as reading, watching videos, or doing work. On the other hand, the lecturer thinks that this is not a benefit for the drivers as they find driving entertaining and enjoys it. Moreover, driving is a good distraction for people who are very busy with their work. This leisure time will be wasted as people will be busy working and will not enjoy it. In this way, the lecturer shows the weakness of the author's third reason because free time will be a waste of the people.
