Silver coins were historical evidence of the Norse's trip to North America

Essay topics:

Silver coins were historical evidence of the Norse's trip to North America

The article and the lecture are both about the authenticity the coin excavated in Maine's site as evidence of the Norse's exploration of North America. The author of the reading believes that the coin was fake proof and provides three reasons of support. Nevertheless, the lecturer rebuts the statements made by the author. He is of the opinion that actually the coin actually represents genuine evidence of the Norse's travel.

First of all, the author suggests that the coin was found in a place in Maine thousand kilometers far away from many other ones in eastern Canada where the Norse settled. This argument is challenged by the lecturer. He says that there are perfect historical reasons for this question. The native Americans in Maine may have travelled to eastern Canada, obtained the coin and brought them back

Second, the writer contends that no other coins were discovered in those Canadian fields, which means the Norse actually did not carry silver coins in their trip to North America. However, the lecturer rebuts this point by asserting that the Norse did not live in North America permanently, therefore, it is possible that they took back all their possessions when returning to Europe.

Finally, it is stated in the passage that silver coins were of no value in the Norse's destination since they were not accepted as common currency. Hence, they could not belong to their packaging for the journey. .On the other hand, the speaker posits that the coins were attractive and unusual to native Americans. He puts forth the idea that the local might be appealed by their beauty and use them to make necklaces or other types of jewelry. Consequently, the silver coins were worthy and could be used to trade
