Solar system colonization

Essay topics:

Solar system colonization

The article states that Saturn's moon Titan is more suitable for human colonization than Mars and provides three reasons of support. However, the professor explains that Mars is a better place than Titan for colonization and refutes each of the author's reasons.

First, the reading claims that Titan and Earth are quite similar in some aspects like atmospheric pressure which will make it more habitable. The professor refutes these points by saying that atmosphere is not an important thing to consider as people living there should still wear space suits which protects them from the harsh climate.

Second, the article posits that lower gravity on Titan will help in reducing overall fuel usage of rockets as most of the fuel is used in landings and takeoffs. However, the professor in the lecture says that lower gravity has detrimental effects on human beings. He states that lower gravity slows the human heart which will have serious repercussions in long term.

Third, the reading says that the longer distance between Earth and Titan shouldn't be a matter of concern as a very minimal amount of fuel is consumed in a vacuum. The professor opposes this by saying that distance between Earth and Titan matters a lot as communication will take a longer time. He also says that the longer distance delays the supply of required logistics to Titan.

To sum it up, both writer and professor hold conflicting views about the colonization of Titan and Mars where the writer supports Titan colonization and the professor supports the colonization of Mars. It's clear that they will have trouble finding common ground on the issue.
