Spartacus the rebel leader who fought against the Romans with an army of fellow escaped slaves is one of the most famous figures in ancient Roman history Spartacus led his men against their Roman oppressors and managed to defeat the Roman army in several

The main topic of both the passage and the reading is Spartacus. According to the passage, Spartacus had been a hero for several reasons. However, the lecturer refutes the passage's opinion citing three reasons which will be illustrated in the subsequent paragraphs.
First of all, the passage claims that Spartacus and his men's main goal was to return home. Whereas, the lecturer points out that during the war, some routes were created that can be used to come back home. But, Spartacus was inclined to achieve wealth and prosperity. Thus, the passage's opinion is not valid.
Secondly, the passage states that Spartacus was an ingenious leader because he surmount the Roman army which was noticeably competent and well-equipped. In contrast, the lecturer declares that the Roman army did not use the best soldiers for the mentioned war, and as soon as they used their skilled soldiers, the Spartacus' team was defeated. Therefore, one can not conclude that Spartacus was a resourceful leader just because he triumphed over Roman army at once.
Finally, the passage mentions that Spartacus was an upright man who tried to fight against slavery. He had some high-ranked position suggestions, but he rejected them in order to support human rights. However, the lecturer says that in the eighteenth century, people were looking for some heroes to be inspired by, and these stories stem from this fact. In fact, there are no evidence that can prove the validitably of these stories. As a result, the passage's statement can not be reliable.
