summarize the points made in the lecture

Hundreds of large stone jars are scattered across an archaeological site, The Plain of Jars in Laos. Archaeologists proposeseveral theories about their possible uses some two-thousand years ago, but the professor says the real purpose is stilluncertain.
First, according to a local story, the jars were used for fermentation ordered by a king to produce a special beverage. However, the professor points out that pots used for fermentation are traditionally made of clay. Making stone jars is time-consuming and expensive. There is no reason for ancient people to spend time making stone jars when clay jars are easier tomake.
Second, the reading passage suggests that the stone jars were used to store water collected in the rainy season and waterwas later given to traveling traders who needed the water in dry season. However, the professor says that although the jars werefound close to ancient trade routes, the routes were also close to rivers. The traveling traders could get the freshwater theyneeded from the rivers and streams. They would not need the stone jars to get the water they needed.
Third, metal tools, jewelry, and glass beads are found in some of the jars. Since the jars are large enough to hold humanremains, there is the possibility that the stone jars were used as tombs. However, the professor points out a serious problem ofthis theory.Tombs are usually covered to protect the human remains and artifacts from the weather or from being stolen. Thestone jars in Laos are not covered at all. The lack of covering means the jars are not likely tombs for burials.
