summarize the points made in the lecture

Spartacus is a famous figures in ancient Roman history. The reading passage states three aspects of Spartacus' story thatfascinate both historians and the general public. However, the professor provides arguments to point out the inaccuracies in thereading passage.
First, the reading passage states that the goal of Spartacus and his men to fight the Romans is because they wanted to gohome. This is something everyone can empathize with. However, the professor says returning home wasn't their only goal. Theevidence is that when Spartacus first defeated the Roman army, he didn't take that opportunity to escape. Instead, he and hismen marched toward the city of Rome. This implies that they wanted to capture the city and its wealth.
Second, the reading passage claims that Spartacus has military skills to lead an inferior army to defeat the well-trained Romanforces, and this earned him the admiration. However, the professor says that Spartacus won the first few battles not because ofhis military skill but because Romans did not take him seriously at first. Romans initially sent only the poorly-trained soldiers andthat was defeated by Spartacus. Later, when Romans sent their best army, Spartacus was quickly defeated.
Lastly, the reading passage states that Spartacus turned down the offer of a Roman senator position. His action earned himthe reputation as a human rights advocate because Spartacus wanted to liberate Roman slaves. However, the professor pointsout that this story was made up by eighteenth century European playwright who was a member of the antislavery movement.People in the movement needed to have an inspirational hero from ancient time, so Spartacus was portrayed as such a hero. Inother words, it was just an inspirational play not the historical fact.
