It is likely that the copper clinders were originally designed to keep scrolls but later served as batteries because some inventors may have discovered that they could produce electricity when used together with iron rods and liquid.
Finally, the author of the reading claims that ancient people had no devices that relied on electricity. Under this circumstance, these vessels would have been comletely to them. However, the speaker argues that people coould use them to convince others that they had magical power. Also, they could be applied in medical treatment as healing pains.
