Essay topics:

summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they challenge the vessels were used as electric batteries made in the reading passage.

In the lecture, the author discusses that it is not likely that the vessels which had been excavated two years earlier by villagers in Iraq were actually used as electric batteries in ancient times, while the lecture claims that what the passage state is not convincing and disputes those ideas presented in the passage with several proofs.
To begin with, according to the reading passage, it is suggested that there is no evidence that any electricity conductors such as metal wires were located near the vessels because all that has been excavated are the vessels themselves. In this case, they might not use as batteries. In contrast, the professor argues in the lecture that it is not true. Those local people who does not accept professional tranning found these vessels so that they might overlooked the clay jars and thrown them away.
In coodition, the statement in the reading material indicates that the copper clinders inside the jars look exactly like copper cylinders discovered in the ruins of Seleucia where located neraby. From the same shape discovered from the cylinders, author can conclude an idea that the copper clinders might use for holding scrolls of sacred texts as Seleucia did not for generating electricity. On the contrary, the professor points out that this similarity can not exclude the possibility that those vessels were ancient batteries. It is likely that the copper clinders were originally designed to keep scrolls but later served as batteries because some inventors may have discovered that they could produce electricity when used together with iron rods and liquid.
Finally, the author of the reading claims that ancient people had no devices that relied on electricity. Under this circumstance, these vessels would have been comletely to them. However, the speaker argues that people coould use them to convince others that they had magical power. Also, they could be applied in medical treatment as healing pains.
