The reading and lecture are both about the unprececedent breakthrough of artificial genome that are able to create unique species. The author of the reading states that although this ia major innovation in the field of science, they are susceptible to create unimaginable threat to environment. The lecturer opposes the idea and attacks each of the claims made in the article.
First, the author begins by stating that we cannot predict the shape and size of the artificially created life and how they act. As a result, there is a great probability to do harm than the good. The professor believes there are flaws in the writer's position. He contends that if they are carried out in a proper manner, they can be essential in curing various diseases.
Secondly, according to the writing, they do not follow the rules of natural ambiance and tend to compete in a crowed environment. In addition, synthetic microbe are likely to wipe out the agricultural crop and species too. The speaker, on other hand points out that synthetic microbe run remarkably resisting the natural adaptation. Furthermore, they deliberately or accidently make plant species exotic so that we can taste differently in our lunch.
Finally, the reading passage also notes that we need to be serious while introducing new cell in a natural environment as artificial plants and overuse of pesticide could be detrimental to surroundings. The professor rebuts this argument. He puts forth the idea that indeed man made genome can be fearful to the environment yet nature too can do harm to humanity. For instance, threat that are prone to insects, venomous species found in surroundings and so on are doing more harm to the humanity.
As we can see, the author and lecturer holds conflicting views on benefit of artificial genome in environment. The speaker effectively challenges the writer's argument.
