Essay topics:

Summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they respond to the specific points made in the reading passage.

Both the reading and the lecture discuss a book called, Voynich Manuscript. The reading suggests three possible authors for this book. The lecturer, however, thinks that none of the three persons, mentioned in the reading, is the author of the manuscript.

First of all, it is pointed out in the reading that Ascham is the writer since many similarities between his book on medicinal plants and the manuscript. This point is challenged by the lecturer. He states that Ascham was an ordinary physician and he was not such a genius to make scientific breakthrough, and create an encoded book.

Secondly, it is stated in the passage that the manuscript is a fake, created by famous fraud, Kelley; in order to sell it to a rich person. The professor rebut this argument. He notes that although Kelley was a known cheater, he did not have to try very hard for making this mysterious book to fool one person, since people of that generations were not so hard to fool.

Finally, the reading suggests the theory that the manuscripts is a modern fake made by Voynich himself to make money. The lecturer, on the other hand, points that it was not possible for Voynich to create such a fake book. He elaborates on this by mentioning that it is now proven that the ink used in the manuscript is four hundred years old; therefore the book is created long time before Voynich.
