task 1

The reading passage and the lecture both discuss the speaking ability of ancient species of human called Neanderthals. The reading cites that primitives had been able to speak. However, the lecturer provides reasons that this theory is counterintuitive.
According to the reading, the Neanderthals had large brains with higher cranial capacity that abled them to speak. The lecturer, meanwhile, says that it is true that they had larger brains than us but the size of the brain is not a good proof. Because what is important is the brain complexity which plays an initial role in human's speaking.
The reading also claims that they found the hyoid bone, an evidence that shows Neanderthals were able to move their tongue in different ways in order to talk. In contrast, the lecturer asserts the bone does not guarantee they would have been to speak. She ratiocinates by inferring to monkeys which have the same bone but not able to speak.
Finally, although the reading declares the anthropologists found different muscles in Neanderthal's stomachs that their duty was helping them to create sound in addition to breath, the professor states that these muscles were essential for primitives breathing only. An ability to make them resist in the severe climate.
