TOEFL T P O 48 - Integrated Writing Task

Essay topics

Both essay and lecture discuss the decline in the frog's population. The author suggests three solutions to help frogs. On the other hand, the lecturer rejects all of these ideas. The lecturer thinks none of these methods are practical.
First of all, the writer of the article points out that farmers use some kinds of pesticides to preserve their crops, and because of these pesticides, most frogs are diminished. Moreover, the essay proposes that the government should pass some laws to prevent farmers to use these pesticides. The lecturer, however, disagrees with this idea. She mentions that this practice is not economical for farmers; since unless using suitable pesticides, their crops would decrease, they won’t be able to compete in the market.
Secondly, the essay states that the existence of fungus is dangerous for the frog’s health. As a result, it proposes to use some anti-fungus medicines to support the frog population. The professor challenges this concept by mentioning that this work would be effective if these medicines are used for every individual of frogs, which is not economical. Besides, this implementation should continue for the next generations of frogs, which makes the situation wore.
Finally, the writer of the essay warns that the natural habitat of the frogs is going to be destroyed by human activities that drain the water of lakes. Therefore, frogs cannot lay their eggs on this water. The lecturer rebuts this claim. She mentions that the main problem is global warming, not human water usage. So, putting some limitations on human consumption of water won’t help to save the frog's natural habitat.
