The reading and the lecture are both about the employees who work five days a week and four days a week. The author of the reading states that companies offering the option for four days a week for 80 percent pay would benefit the whole economy and the individual companies and provided three reasons for support. However, the lecturer refutes each of the author's points by saying that it would not benefit the company and the life quality of people.

First, the article conveys that the shortened workweek of employees would increase the profits of the company as the company pays only 80 percent payroll. However, the lecturer refutes this point by saying that it reduces the profits of the company because of adding new employees the company should provide training and medical benefits. Furthermore, more workspace is needed and extra computer systems are required which reduces the profits of the company.

Second, the article claims that unemployment rates can be reduced as the workers work only 4 days a week. Nevertheless, the professor refutes this point by saying that if a company expects the employees to work more hours, it leads to an unpleasant situation to employees.

Third, the text claims that the employees who work four days a week can have more time to spend with their families and can enjoy leisure activities. However, the lecturer says that working four days have some risks like there is no guarantee of the job when the economy decreases as well as the company prefers to give promotions to the workers who work five days a week. Therefore, it also reduces the quality of the life.
