The article states that a mandatory policy be created in the companies in the US to offer the option of working a four-day workweek for our-fifths (80 percent) of their normal pay and provides three reasons of support. However, the professor refutes each of the author's reasons by stating that it works against the companies as well as individual employees, instead.

First, the reading claims that the shortened workweek would increase company profits because employees would feel more rested and alert, and as a result, they would make fewer costly errors in their work. The professor refutes this point saying that it will force the companies end up spending more reasoning that hiring new workers implies more money be spent on training and additional benefits like health, medical etc. Also, hiring recruiting additional employees needs more work space and more computers, which cuts into profits.

Second, the article posits that companies would have fewer overworked and error-prone employees for the same money. The speaker counters this by saying that this leads to raise in the expectations from a company's employees and affects the company's performance.

Third, the reading claims that implementing this policy would reduce unemployment rate. The professor condemns this by saying that no additional jobs will be created and current jobs will be unpleasant because there would be no stability in jobs which in turn affects advancing careers (promotions) and ultimately leads to an economic turn down.
