TPO-02 - Integrated Writing Task In many organizations, perhaps the best way to approach certain new projects is to assemble a group of people into a team. Having a team of people attack a project offers several advantages. First of all, a group of people

The article and the lecture are both about Benefits and downsides of assigning the responsibility of approaching new projects to teams. Article opines that working in teams would be beneficial to both the company and individual. The professor disputes this claim and presents an example of a company where this is experimented showing the downsides of working in teams.

First of all, the article points out that working in teams can help in coming up with various ideas as the knowledge of the team as a whole is wider than an individual. It is also mentioned that work can be done quickly and can come up with creative solutions. Professor does not agree with this. He states that in certain instances team was slower than an individual as they failed to reach a consensus on how they would go ahead.

Secondly, the author contends that teams can take risky decisions and benefit the company as the onus is on the whole team and not one individual. This is refuted by the professor. He mentions the case where some people in the team became highly influential. He argues that if few people in the team become influential they can convince the whole team to drop or adopt an idea silencing the rational voices and when it ends up in a failure whole team would be blamed but not the individuals responsible for this.

Finally, the author of the article posits that teams can help an individual get recognition. The article notes that one's ideas are heard by more number of people in a team and impact of them would be more when implemented by a team. The professor rebuts this claim. He talks regarding the instances where some people who didn't contribute got a free ride and recognition when the team succeeded. He elaborates that people who actually contributed and worked felt exactly opposite to the feeling described in the article as the recogniton went to the whole team but not them.
