The reading passage discusses an interesting topic about the possibility of the endothermia condition in dinosaurs and provides three reasons for support. However, the lecture cast doubts on the claim made by the article and opposes each of the reasons of the reading passage.
First, the reading passage sustains the idea of endothermic dinosaurs on the fossils discovered in Polar Regions, meaning that only this type of animals could survived in such low temperatures. On the contrary, the lecture refutes this idea by arguing that the area where the fossils were discovered was warmer back in those days when dinosaurs were alive. Moreover, as many reptiles today that live in areas with cold winters, the dinosaurs could migrate or hibernate escaping the cold weather.
Secondly, the reading passage claims that dinosaurs were endothermics animals based in the fact of the position of the legs. The legs underneath of their bodies instead on the side like repites point to a running animal thar require more energy. Challenging the article, the lecture explains that the position of the legs does not necessarily means a running animal, but also a heavy one. Dinosaurs were very heavy and its weight only could be supported by legs situated underneath their bodies.
Finally, the reading passage suggests that the presence of Haversian canals in dinosaurs bones could also means the endothermic condition of them. On the opposite, the lecture contradicts the article by demonstrating that even thought Haversian canals exist in the dinosaurs bones, also can be found in them thinks layers of bones in between pointing to a fast and slow grow of the animals in different periods of time depending on the favorable or adverse environment. For the reason, the presence of Haversian canals is not an determinant evidence of an endothermic condition.
