The argument is about the uses of 'great house' which is situated in new mexico in the american southwest. The article includes the theories about the use of huge building however, lecturer refutes all the theories mentioned in the passage.

Firstly, it is mentioned that chaco houses were used by people for residential purpose and around hundred of people lived there. Lecturer cast doubt on this theory by suggesting that if these many number of people lived there, then there must be more number of fire places should be there, but actually there were only few fire place and so, the people are also less in number.Hence, the building not used for residential purpose.

Secondly, lecturer states that excavation was done at the building and there were no evidences that big containers are present at the building. However, in article it is mentioned that big containers were used for storing of grain maize for long duration and the building served the purpose.

Lastly, lecturer says that evidences at the pueblo alto consist of a mound formed by a pile of old material having a trash thrown by construction workers.Large building material like sand, stone, and construction tools were present at the site along with the broken pots. However, theory suggested that broken pots were the evidence of building used for ceremonial purpose.

In conclusion, lecturer refutes all the claim made in the passage by providing persuasive argument.
