TPO-08 - Integrated Writing Task Toward the end of his life, the Chevalier de Seingalt (1725-1798) wrote a long memoir recounting his life and adventures. The Chevalier was a somewhat controversial figure, but since he met many famous people, including ki

Discussing about the memoir created by Chevalier regarding his life and adventures, paragraph raises point about the accuracy of the memoir. Whereas, lecture states positive point about the memoir and clarify the doubts mentioned in the paragraph.
Firstly, paragraph casting doubt about the wealthy life of Chevalier which he spent in Switzerland but evidence shows that he borrowed money from the Switzerland merchant. Contrary to the opinion mentioned in the paragraph, lecture says that borrowing money does not mean that he was poor. This is correct that he had spent money in parties and gambling but he had borrowed money to sell the property. He needed money so that more money would arrive.
Secondly, paragraph raises point about the accuracy on the conversation between Chevalier and writer Voltaire. Paragraph states that it is impossible to write accurate conversation after so many years. Whereas, lecture states that Chevalier used to make notes every night about the conversations. He has referred those notes while writing about the conversation between him and writer Voltaire in the memoir.
Thirdly, paragraph depicts that story mentioned by Chevalier in memoir about the escape from the Venice prison with the help of metal piece is not accurate. Paragraph mentions that Chevalier had good political relations and he had taken support of the bribe to get out from the prison. Contrary to the point, lecture states that there were more powerful people in the prison at the time of Chevalier. It is not correct to say that Chevalier had used his friendship else other people could also escape with the help of bribe power. Lecturer supports his point with the fact that government documents show that ceiling of the prison had been repaired after the escape which shows that he had escaped from the hole in the ceiling.
