TPO 1, Integrated Writing

The reading and the lecture are both about how reducing working days from 5 to 4 can affect the company and the individual workers. The author of the passage believes that the company will benefit because employees are provided with the option of working days, and getting less salary. The lecture casts doubt on the claim made in the passage. He states that the company will not profit by giving limited salary and number of working days.

First of all, the author points out that hiring new employees will cost the same amount, and company would not spend more amount for new employees because the company will pay 80% of their normal rate to 4-day employees. The lecture challenged this point. He says that the company should provide training and medication to the new employees, and it will cost more than paying the 4-day employees.

Secondly, the author contends that individual worker will not risk because they will spend more time in having the quality of their lives, and they will have more time with families, giving private interests, having leisure activities. The lecture refutes this argument. He elaborates on this by mentioning a career where employees will lose their profession if they spend much time in other activities, and they will not get a promotion when they are not aware of technology.

Finally, the author states that making 4days of work will yield the employees more relaxed and they will work without errors in their work. The lecture, on the other side, posits that employees will have good health even though they worked for 5days, and the company will put more money by hiring new workers.

In conclusion, the lecture effectively casts doubt on all the claims and theories made in the reading.
