TPO-10 - Integrated Writing Task

The lecture and the article are about the causes of sea otters decline. The reading claims that the main cause of their decline is environmental pollution. However, the lecturer feels that attacks of predators have played main role in their decline.

First of all, no one can find any dead sea otter in the Alaskan coast area, so it is very difficult to find out the factors responsible for it. Moreover, the dead bodies of se otters can only be washed off the shore if they were killed by predators, pollutants caused there deaths can not clear off their dead bodies. While the author of the reading mentions that they are killed by the very known sources of pollution near Alaskan coast like oil rigs and other industrial chemical pollutions.

Secondly, the other sea mammals like whales from the coasts were disappeared because of the human hunters, so if the number of otters decreasing in the sea it must be due to the change in their diets. Probably easily occurring orcas are causing decline of all the sea mammals such as seals, sea otters and sea lions.

Thirdly, The lectures puts forth the idea that the predation theory have more impact on the decline of sea otters than the pollution theory. Furthermore ocars are so large that they can not access the shallow and rocky locations and these are the locations where sea otters are not declined. On the other hand reading states that sea otters are greatly declined in some areas while stable on others.
