The article states that the rare and important fossils are now being sold to private ownership which is an unfortunate development for both scientists and the general public and provides three reasons of support. However the professor refutes each of the author’s reasons.
First, the reading claims that the public suffers because fossils that would otherwise be donated to museums where everyone can see them are sold to private collectors who do not allow the public to view their collections. The professor refutes this point by saying that the great result is less exposure. She states that low level public school routinely buys fossils for public to view.
Second, the article posits that scientists are likely to lose access to some of the most important fossils and thereby miss out on potentially crucial discoveries about extinct life forms. However, the professor says that they do not realize either. According to the professor people put value when scientists performed detailed tests and it can only pass through scientist .So scientist community will not miss the important discoveries.
Third, the reading says that the commercial fossil collectors often destroy valuable scientific evidence associated with the fossils they unearth. The professor opposes this point by explaining that they are not run by university/school. According to the professor it is better for science to find many fossils.
