TPO-17 - Integrated Writing Task In the past century, the steady growth of the human population and the corresponding increase in agriculture and pesticide use have caused much harm to wildlife in the United States, birds in particular. Unfortunately for b

The reading passage states that the population of birds in the United State are reducing due to the increase use of pesticide, whereas the lecture points out that the reasons in the passage are not convincing.

Firstly, the author insists that since the human populations and settlements will continue to aggrandize, thus more habitats of birds will be devastated. The professor, however, argues that urban development virtually provide better living condition for birds. And many birds' number even increase such as, seagull. In addition, many species can maintain themselves by preying the rodents and other creatures in cities. Therefore, the population of some species may decline while other species will thrive.

Secondly, the reading says that to synchronize with the grow number of people, more habitats of birds will be devastated. In contrast, the speaker reckons that actually there is less and less land used in agriculture. Human now tend to introduce more productive crops which less land are needed to produce food. In this way, the birds will not lose their habitats.

Lastly, the author deems that pesticide can get into water and food chain for birds. With the increase use of it, more birds will die from contaminated water or cannot produce posterity successfully. The professor rebuts the assertion by saying that people currently are aware the consequence of pesticide. So we have implemented two practice to reduce the detriment. Now new and more less toxic insecticide are used, and genetic modified crops which will not harm birds at all are designed to resist insect.
