The main idea of both the passage and the talk is about three presented ways to save Torreya taxifoha. Considering this, the passage claims present three ways to preserve Torreya. The professor, on the other hand, not only refutes the author's assessments, but also asserts that the announced option runs counter to the ways the reading just argued. The lecturer demonstrates three reasons to reject options in the reading.
The first criticism of the passage against which the lecture argues is that reestablishing Torreya in the same location can be an efficient way to save Torreya. As stated by the professor, the location's microclimate has changed, thanks to global warming which has increased the temperature in the region, and many regions across the location have become dry. So, reestablishing Torreya is unlike to be successful.
Moreover, unlike the passage which claims that Torreya can be planted in far places. The professor illustrates that this strategy has employed before, and it had negative consequences. The professor provides an example of moving a tree, which its name elude me at the moment, in order to clarify her point. As stated by the professor, when the tree was moved to the new habitat, it started to spread quickly, which leads to kill many endangered plants in the habitat. As a result, this option can enjoy an unproductive outcome on the new environment.
Finally, the lecture contradicts the fallacy of the readings that Torreya can be preserved in research centers, and it is a proper way not only to preserve Torreya, but also to survey the species, saying that Torreya cannot resist against diseases in research centers due to the fact that research centers do not have enough services and adequate situation in order to preserve Torreya’s diversities.
All in all, the professor maintains that unfortunately, three options provided in the reading is not convincing.
