The passage states that genetic modification, a process used to change an organism's genes is now being used to improve trees through genetic modification and provides three benefits of planting genetically modified trees. The lecturer, nevertheless, explains that they are not as great as native trees and there are problems with this process.

First, the reading claims that by designing to be harder than nature trees, genetically modified trees are more likely to survive. On the other hand, the lecturer opposes this point by saying that there is no sure for these trees to survive. The professor contends that few of them can survive and because of being more uniform, they are exposed to harsh environments and thus die more.

In addition, the article posits that genetically modified trees bring a number of economic benefits to those who grow them. Conversely, the lecturer argues that there is a hidden cost. According to the professor, these trees tend to charge much more and everyone who wants to plant them might pay to the company.

Finally, the passage expresses that use of these trees can prevent overusing of wild trees. Quite on the contrary, the lecturer emphasizes that these trees grow grassy and they compete with native trees for resources such as water and thus the native trees will have no resources for surviving.

In conclusion, the professor disproves each of the author's reasons to justify this process is not helpful.
