The passage indicates that despite the fact that ethanol fuel has been advocated by some people, has many critics argue that it is not good to be used instead of gasoline. The professor, however, casts some doubts on the proposed idea in the reading passage that it would actually be good and the mentioned reasons in the reading are not convincing.
According to the passage, one of the reasons that supports the theory is the major problems of the ethanol fuel is global warming. The professor, on the other hand, rejects the theory and thinks that ethanol fuel will not increase the global warming rate. He explains that growing plants, for producing ethanol fuel, will absorb the carbon dioxide from the atmosphere in their nutrition process, and this will reduce the rate of global warming.
The reading passage asserts that the production of ethanol will decrease the amount of plants and this will harm the food chain for some animals. The professor refutes this idea and indicates that ethanol fuel might be produced from cellulose, which usually comes from the non-edible parts of the plants. So it will not harm the amount of animals feeding plants.
The reading passage elaborates on the view that ethanol fuel has high price
comparing with gasoline, and it would not be as successful. The professor disagree with the idea and believes that increasing the production rate will reduce the price of production. He claims that according to a study, the prices would fall 40% if the production rate would be augmented three times more than what it is now.
