First, the article mentions that the history of spreading suggests that the invasion might be unstoppable. On the contrary, the professor in the lecture states that people can stop the spreading by some effective ways. For the zebra mussels are carried by ballast water, the ship can be required to empty out the water which full of mussels and refill with ocean water while the ship is still on the ocean.

Second, the mussels will not dominate a area in a long period of time. While the lecture agrees with that mussels have no predator when the they are introduced, once the animals find there is a new food source around them they will change their habits to exploit it.

Finally, the article says that the mussels are likely to trigger a declination on fish population. However, the lecture replies that the mussels will generate nutrients that are eaten by fish that feed near the bottom of the lake or river.
