TPO 28 - Integrated Writing Task

The reading passage and the lecture both discuss about the history of the man who was the first one to conquer the North Pole. However, the lecturer doubts about the truth of the story.
Firstly, although the committee declared that Peary reached the North Pole by investigating Peary's equipment. The woman disagrees with the statement. She argues that the committee was constructed by Peary's close friends. Moreover, they offered the fund of money for Peary. In addition, the committee took only two days to investigate. Therefore, the examination may be bias.
Second, the writer offers the evidence that Avery made the same task in less than 30 days to support that Peary could make it, too. The lecturer refutes that it is not fair to compare between Avery and Peary. She feels this way because the food for Avery is supplied by an airplane rather than a dogsled. And the weather was more favorable for Avery, while it was not the same condition as Peary.
Last but not the least, for the lecturer, measuring the shadows in Peary's picture is not conveiencing. The lecturer refutes that the photo taken by a original camera is too old to be identified. The photograph is fussy and fading overtime. As a result, using the picture with low quality to calculate the place where Peary reached is not wise and inaccurate.
For these three reasons, the lecturer does not believe that Peary was the first one to reach the North Pole.
