The reading posits that Peary reached to the North Pole and offers three justifications to uphold this supposition. In contrast, the professor indicates that the author's indications are not convincing and demonstrates some counterarguments.

Firstly, the text indicates that the investigation which has been carried out by National Geographic Society affirm Peary's declaration. The lecturer refutes this and says that committee’s expression was not objective because member of committee were Pear’s close friends. Besides, Peary's accounts were not examined carefully since the investigation only lasted for two days. Thus, committee’s report cannot be trustworthy.

Secondly, the article points out that Tom Avery’s expedition in only 37 days can be another proof to reconfirm travelling to the North Pole. However, the lecture states that Avery’s trip was very different from Peary journey in significant ways. For example, Avery’s sledge had very less weight because he did not transport any food. As a result, Avery’s speedy journey was so different to approve Peary’s claim.

Thirdly, the reading puts out that Peary' photographs are strong evidences to calculate the position of the sun and verify Peary’s statements. The speaker denies this and mentions that this technique needs to measure the shadows very precisely to establish sun position. According to the professor, Pear’s photos are fuzzy, vague, and also became faded over time. Therefore, they could not be used to calculate the exact position of the sun and attest photos were taken at the North Pole.
