The reading passage discussion is about the possibility of the migration of one group of animals by the name of edmontosaure in the winter and used to live in North Slope. However, the professor believes none of the reasons is convincing.
First, the text explains that the edmontosaure was used to eat plants, but in the dark and cold weather of the North Slope plants could not grow. So, they need to migrate to the warmer place. In contrast, the lecture states that 100 years ago the North Slope was warmer than today. The hot tempreture and the sun which shine during 24 hours a day provide a great situation for plants to grow. These plants died in the winter and were an appropriate food for edmontosaure.
Second, the author asserts that the discovery of the herd of edmontosaure's skeletons cause them to think they migrate. Also, it shows that the caribou and buffalo that migrate by the herd for its claim. On the contrast, the professor tells that living in the herd does not mean a migration. In fact, it has a lot of reasons. One of them is for protecting in front of predators. The modern example is Rozavelt plant s that live in the western United States, but they do not migrate.
Third, the passage declares that the edmontosaure had this power to migrate to the far place, and they could run in high rate. So, they can migrate to the warm place in the harsh arctic weather. But, the professor refutes this claim because the juvenile edmontosaure did not this ability to migrate to the farther place. Also, the juve nile could not protect themselve s and survive alone. So, the adult edmontosaure could not leave the juvenile alone.
