TPO-29 - Integrated Writing Task Large numbers of dinosaur fossils have been discovered in deposits on Alaska's North Slope, a region that today experiences an extremely cold, arctic climate. One hundred million years ago, when those dinosaurs were alive,

The article discusses the hypothesis that considers the possibility of migrating Edmontosaurs from Alaska's North Slope to southern regions; based on the findings of their fossils. The professor, however, rejects this idea and thinks that the article's debates are not convincing and refutes each of them.

First, the article claims that edmontosaur's diet supports the migration hypothesis since there weren't enough plants for them to find in winters. The professor rejects this point and states that in the past the region was warmer and was getting sunlight in 20 hours a day during summertimes. It was good enough to help plants grow and proliferate so that edmontosaurs could survive on dead plants residuals in winters.

Second, the author argues that many edmontosaur's skeletons have been found from the same site that proves that they lived in herds, and they were migrating. The professor denies this point and says that this doesn't prove that they were migrating. She provides an example of the Rosevelt Elks that live in herds, but they do not migrate.

Finally, the author suggests that edmontosaurs were physically able to migrate in long distances. The professor refutes this point as well and explains that it doesn't prove that they have been migrating because their children wasn't grown enough to travel far distances. Therefore, they would slow down adults significantly, and the herd wouldn't leave their children behind, and they would stay together to survive the winter. Thus it is highly unlikely that edmontosaurs were migrating in the past.
